Ashwellthorpe is situated about nine miles south west of Norwich and 4 miles east of Wymondham.

The parish church is All Saints and dates from the 13th century.  It contains the tomb of Sir Edmund de Thorpe and his wife and several heraldic shields of local families.

The sign is very unusual and reminds one of a native American totem pole.

Beautifully carved from elm, it comprises 24 small panels depicting historical and contemporary events.

These include the famous Knyvett letters – written by Sir John Knyvett of Ashwellthorpe to his wife in the times leading up to the English civil war and execution of King Charles I.
